Robert Lyn Nelson is known worldwide as the creator of “Two Worlds”, the 1979 painting depicting life above and below the surface of the ocean. This original painting sparked a new genre of art known as Modern Marine Art. “Two Worlds” also played a significant role in inspiring marine conservation efforts world-wide.
Nelson was one of the first ever environmental artists. For 35 years, many non-profit conservation groups worldwide benefited from his artistic talents and generous contributions. He has received recognition for his efforts including the “Environmental Hero Award” by Vice President Al Gore.
Although he is Maui’s most famous artist for his marine art, his artistic range expands far beyond the genre. For years, Nelson has created beautiful works of art in many different styles from realism to surrealism, impressionism to cubism. Pablo Picasso, Gerhard Richtor, and David Hockney, known for their versatility and considerable artistic range, inspire Nelson to continue creating works and explore new ways to express himself on canvas.
His latest and most treasured collection is his newly released Beatles Tribute Series. The series was created in homage to the band that has been a favorite of the artist for years. The paintings are as surreal as the classic songs and are Nelson’s visual interpretation of the music he loves and continues to enjoy. more >>
